At Pawloom Shepherds, the long‑term health and soundness of our dogs is our highest priority. We carefully select breeding pairs, complete appropriate health testing, and raise our puppies in a clean, nurturing environment. This Health Guarantee outlines the protection we provide and the responsibilities we ask of our puppy families.
1. Veterinary Health Check
- Every puppy is examined by a licensed veterinarian before going home.
- Puppies leave with a written health report, vaccination record, and deworming history.
- At the time of sale, each puppy is believed to be in good health, free from known contagious disease and apparent physical defects.
Buyer requirement:
- You must have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup or delivery.
- If your veterinarian finds a serious health concern within that period, you must notify us in writing with a copy of the vet report.
If a veterinarian documents a life‑impacting, pre‑existing health issue (excluding parasites or minor, easily treated conditions), you may:
- Return the puppy for a replacement puppy of equal value when available, or
- Keep the puppy and receive a partial refund, as agreed on a case‑by‑case basis.
Transportation and veterinary costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
2. Infectious Disease Guarantee (Initial 7 Days)
For 7 days from the date the puppy goes home, we guarantee the puppy is free from serious contagious disease, such as:
- Parvovirus
- Distemper
- Severe respiratory infections
If your licensed veterinarian diagnoses one of these illnesses and reasonably believes it was present at the time of sale:
- You must notify us within 24 hours of diagnosis and provide a written report.
- We will work with you to determine an appropriate resolution, which may include a replacement puppy when available.
Routine, easily treatable conditions such as mild gastrointestinal upset, minor respiratory irritation, or common external parasites are not covered, as they are common in young puppies and can arise after leaving our care.
3. Genetic Health Guarantee
Pawloom Shepherds breeds from dogs that have undergone recommended structural and/or genetic health testing relevant to the German Shepherd breed.
We provide a 24‑month genetic health guarantee against:
- Severe, hereditary hip dysplasia
- Severe, hereditary elbow dysplasia
- Other clearly hereditary conditions that significantly reduce quality of life or require major corrective surgery
To qualify for this guarantee:
- The puppy must be under 24 months of age at the time of diagnosis.
- Diagnosis must be made by a licensed veterinarian and supported by appropriate imaging or testing (e.g., OFA‑style radiographs, specialist reports).
- A written report and copies of all findings must be provided to us.
If a covered hereditary condition is confirmed:
- We will offer a replacement puppy of equal value from a future litter, or
- At our discretion, may offer a partial refund, especially if you wish to keep the affected dog.
We do not require the return or euthanasia of the affected dog; however, we may request that the dog be spayed or neutered if medically appropriate.
4. Conditions Not Covered
The Health Guarantee does not cover:
- Illnesses or injury resulting from:
- Neglect, abuse, accidents, or trauma
- Failure to provide appropriate vet care
- Excessive or inappropriate exercise during growth
- Non‑hereditary joint issues or growth‑related changes associated with:
- Overfeeding or underfeeding
- Improper nutrition, including use of non‑recommended diets
- Rapid weight gain or obesity
- Cosmetic issues or minor conditions that do not significantly affect quality of life, such as:
- Mild allergies
- Small cosmetic imperfections
- Undershot or overshot bite not requiring surgical intervention
- Common puppy concerns that can arise after leaving our home, including but not limited to:
- Mild gastrointestinal upset
- Fleas, ticks, or worms acquired post‑sale
- Minor ear infections or skin irritations
- Any condition resulting from the dog being bred, or from failure to follow reasonable veterinary advice.
